The answer to the question is you can't copy files from a user share to a UD mounted share at /mnt/remotes/ with the file manager bwecause the selection for /mnt/remotes/ is not available.  Feel free to post a feature request.

Hi, are you telling me this has just been removed in unraid v.7.0.0?
Never had this problem before.

  • Not really, I assume the GUI is using some old disk info and not refreshing to get the current one, since it also happens the other way around, i.e., if you boot with a precleared disk and then format

The disk will have to be formatted when you add it to the array. That will erase any data on the disk. I believe that’s what you are seeing the warning for.

Is there any way to verify that the disk will not be re-erased? I had to re-do all of my 3 TB disks last time. Which was okay they took 4 hours. This one has been going for almost 48 hours. I guess it won't matter if the pre-clear plugin isn't working then I'd have to re-erase them again anyways...

I don’t think so, but as you say if the plugin’s signature isn’t correct you’ll need to let Unraid clear the disk anyway. The purpose of the plugin these days is really for testing the disks. Preclear is no longer needed since Unraid can now clear a disk while the array is started.

I like the ability to pause the pre-clear and if I need I can restart the array while the pre-clear is happening. If you re-start while the disk is part of the array it starts all over.

I just went for it and looks like it'll work. Phew. Maybe I just need to not immediately add it or something. image.thumb.png.81bc27cbb36df01f21c1aab93dab1244.png

I've never had an issue with disks needing to clear again after a UD pre-clear. Don't forget to format it.

not sure what you mean?   If you add a pre-created disk to the array it should add almost immediately and you then format it (which is quite quick) to create an empty file system of the desired type.   What you must NOT do is format it before adding it to the array as that erases the Preclear state so Unraid will think it needs to be cleared again.

I think the Erase Disk operation might be broken after the last update.  It is stuck "Starting..."  Preclear still works fine though.

I just came here to check if there was a problem as I can no longer Erase and Clear disks on any server since I'd upgraded to 7.0 and I wondered if 7.0 was the problem as mine too just sit on "Starting...."

Perfect!  Back up and running again.  Thanks for the very quick response and fix.

Are the preclear signatures server-specific?  I'd like to preclear some drives on unRAID Sever #1 then put them in unRAID server #2.  Will this work?  Thanks.

Preclear drives are portable between machines as long as the drives are being passed through transparently to Unraid.

Advice?

Downgrading and Upgrading unraid fixed the 'plugin: run failed returned 127' error it for me.

I upgraded straight to unraid 7.0.1 and skipped 7.0. I downgraded, then upgraded to 7.0, then to 7.0.1. I thought It was because I skipped over 7.0. But if you say you are on 7.0. That means the act of downgrading then having unraid run the update and upgrading fixed the issue for me .

If I run ./preclear_disk.sh /dev/sde from the command line then it looks like it might run. Is their any concerns with running it this way?

Big thanks...the down-up grading worked.  I will now go to 7.01 and see how that executes.  I appreciate it.

There was a recent release of UD Preclear that fixed this situation.  Remove and re-install the plugin to see if it clears up the issue.  Running from the command line will work, but not recommended

That seems to have done the trick. Thank you.

Simply rebooting the server would have likely also fixed it.   Did you happen to upgrade some other plugins recently?

unRAID Version: 6.12.10

Plugin Verision: 2025.02.14

I started a preclear of a 16TB disk the other day using the Unassigned Devices Preclear plugin. It got through its first read pass late last evening and started on its zero pass. After waking up this morning, I see that it has stopped after about nine hours into the zeroing pass. There are no errors, and the job still appears under my main dashboard as well as within the preclear plugin. Not the progress percentage nor elapsed time is updating anymore. It is stuck at 49% and 9 hours. It gave no errors. It just stopped. There is also no activity light from the disk at all now.

I initially thought it might have been my nightly AppData backup stopping plugins and containers (including the preclear plugin), but it ran overnight during the read pass the previous night and it didn't stop then.

The last line in the preclear log shows the following:

Mar 05 03:40:18 preclear_disk_<serial>_21666: SIGEXIT received, exiting ...

I have tried to "Resume all sessions" from within the preclear plugin settings, but it did nothing.

Is there a way I can resume this without having to start over? If I do have to start over, any idea what might have caused this so I can prevent it from happening again?

Update:
I gave in and canceled the job by hitting "Fix Preclear," which apparently is supposed to clear all preclear jobs out of the queue.

Upon starting the job again, it said that the disk already had a preclear job started and picked right back up where it left off. Wish I did that sooner. Could have saved about 24 hours of it sitting there and doing nothing, but I was afraid hitting that button and resuming would have killed the job, if it wasn't dead already.

Trying to update the plugin, getting the following error:

Quote

plugin: updating: unassigned.devices.preclear.plg
Executing hook script: pre_plugin_checks
plugin: run failed: 'upgradepkg --install-new' returned 127
Executing hook script: post_plugin_checks

6.12.15, Unraid Patch installed and latest patches applied.
@NoBigCat further up in the thread has suggested updating to 7.0.0 and then 7.0.1, anyone else having this issue and found any other solutions? A little gun shy updating to 7.
