read it a couple of days ago, it pissed me off a bit as I know what the devs are up to lol.

I'm always checking for updates but only because I know there would be security, stability, & driver updates & more nice features. Its always worth the wait for a stable release.

It wouldn't be so bad it the community had some visibility into what are they are working on or what the goals of the next release are. The current stable version is almost a year old. Hasn't even been any security patches in the last year. Being stable is great but even the unstable branch hasn't been updated months.

The RC version changes largely seem focused on opening the door to a subscription model. Yay! A subscription for radio silence and rarely updated software!

Is this a bad thing?

Most of the products sold this days are sold in Beta or even Alpha stage that's why they're getting constantly updated. Just to be forgotten once fairly functional.

PS5 - took almost a year to being able to use m.2 port.

Sony TV's - over a year to get almost functional VRR

Shield - last update broke more than fixed

windows 10 update - will it reboot? Will it work after? Bluetooth? Who knows. We will see... Currently no more issues with win10 updates...so let's make win11. Same thing happen to win7. What new functionality was added for average joe in between win7 and win11

Games - sold in pre-alpha stages (battlefield 2042, cyberpunk 2077, AC Valhalla, no man sky..........), just to be fixed months later (or even a years), then forgotten.

Phone updates - again. Nothing new, just fixing beta version problems. Usually shifting stuff around, just to finally slow down the device so they can sell new one (top two manufacturers).

Marshall Acton II - Was just fine. Forced update lowered sound quality. Next one long while after brought it back.

Intel Wifi & Bluetooth in my PC - constant updates sometimes every few days. What's new? Can't tell cause it just works the same

Android apps - daily updates. What's new "bug fixes and performance improvements"... for a last 3 years, but somehow feels the same.

Ain't broken - don't fix it.

There's been multiple security exploits found in the kernel and included software.

The current generation of Intel CPUs don't work properly with the next generation scheduled to be release this fall.

Maybe the unraid leadership can give us some transparency? I remember a few years ago the devs here were more motivated and seemed excited to implement new features and options. I remember reading their timeline schedule which was posted online for everyone to see and it had some features on there that seemed to be amazing. Too bad it's been so long ago I cannot remember what any of them were. As I have stated before I've been here since V3 and seen the good, bad and ugly. There are so many dockers and plugins all the devs here is have to keep unraid stable and secure really. Then the userbase pretty much adds their own changes through dockers, plugins, VM's, etc....
