Drives not detected (Unraid 6.9.2, Asrock Z690, 9205-8i card)

Featured Replies

Hi all - I'm setting up my first Unraid server and I can't get my SAS drives to show up.

Build specs:

Asrock Z690 Phantom Gaming 4 with BIOS 6.03

i7-12700K

9205-8i HBA card

In the BIOS, I currently have:

  • Under BIOS > Advanced, I have
    • PCI Link Speeds set to Gen 3
    • DMI Link. Speed set to Gen 3
    • Disabled Above 4G Decoding, Clever access memory, VT-d, SR-IOV support
  • CSM enabled in BIOS > Boot and have messed around with a combination of enabling "UEFI Boot only" for the PXE OpROM, Storage OpROM, and other PCI OpROM policy options under BIOS > Boot > CSM menu. Repeated this again by placing the HBA card in the second PCI x16 slot.

GT710 was detected in both PCI x16 slots. I also disabled fast boot but haven't found anything else to try. No matter what I've done, I haven't been able to get any drives detected under Main tab > Array Devices. I've attached the diagnostic output from Unraid. My head hurts from banging it on the desk so I would appreciate any suggestions or tips. Thanks in advance!

You mention BIOS but don't actually say if the drives are seen in BIOS

HBA is failing to initialize:

Mar 2 18:25:15 kellyridge kernel: mpt2sas_cm0: port enable: FAILED with timeout (timeout=300s)

You should upgrade the firmware since it's very old, can also try a different PCIe slot if available.

Thanks, @JorgeB@trurl. It was a bad HBA card. Replaced it with a new one and it's been smooth sailing so far.
