Swapping Drives - Confused/Worried

Featured Replies

Definitely need some help/advice here!

I'm using a Dell R710 with the first 2 bays populated with SSDs as cache drives, the 2nd set of bays has 2 4TB SMR Seagate drives, and the other set of bays has been empty since I set it up. My current array still has about 800GB free so I haven't maxed anything out yet.

I recently got a deal on a Western Digital CMR 4TB drive that I'd like to use as my parity drive. So that way I can have 8TB of storage with a single parity drive (with plans to add another parity in the future)

The problem I'm running into is the Seagate drives were used as one data drive and the other was parity. Last night I was drinking and decided to add the WD drive, but went through the wrong setup and accidentally added it to the main array drive (so Seagate drive + Western Digital).

I'd like to have the 2 Seagates as the main data drives and the WD as parity, but for the life of me unRAID will not let me remove the WD and swap it with the Seagate. No data has been written to the WD drive either, but I can spin the array up in this config and still see my shares/data with the additional 4TB of storage.

I followed a couple of guides and was able to remove the parity drive fine, so now I'm stuck with just the main Seagate and unRAID pressuring me into using the WD alongside it...with no parity...

How would I go about getting these drives swapped? Would this require running the New Config option?

Just worried and being cautious here as I'd like to keep everything the same and just swap these two disks without losing data.

Attaching screenshots in case I've over worded this! Any advice/help is definitely appreciated.

First pic is currently where I'm at, 2nd pic is what I'd like to accomplish.

New Config will let you assign drives however you want and optionally (by default) build parity on any drive assigned to any parity slot. You can format the new data disk while parity builds or after.
