Mellanox NIC drops out

I installed a Mellanox ConnectX-6 LX. After a reboot it seems to work for a while - it also shows in the Mellanox Plugin but then seemingly randomly drops out and the interfaces go down.

 

The log is flooded with "Tower kernel: mlx5_core 0000:04:00.0 eth1: mlx5e_ethtool_get_link_ksettings: query port ptys failed: -5" but I'm unsure what this means and if this a hint at the solution.

Any help is appreciated.
