simo241
Hi everyone, I am planning to build a machine mainly to run plex and to have same storage for various back up , eventually to run same Vm , my plan is to have maximum 8 hard and with a budget excluded hard drive of about 1300 euro. I already owning 3 seagate Exos X16, 14 TB, and 3 WD red 4TB I was thinking about the following items: -GIGABYTE B660 DS3H 1700 ATX 4XDDR4. ( i chose this because is not expensive and has many pci slot to connect in addition of the Broadcom and the 10gb card as well in the future if needed a GPU) -Intel Core i5-12400 -Corsair Vengeance LPX - (2 x 16 GB) DDR4 3200 -Cooler Master MWE 550 Gold V2 80 PLUS Gold da 550W Fractal Design Define R5 12G Internal PCI-E SAS/SATA HBA Controller Card, Broadcom's SAS 3008, Compatible for SAS 9300-8I WD Blue SN570 500GB High-Performance M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD SanDisk Ultra USB 3.1 da 32 GB for Unraid Asus XG-C100C Scheda di Rete PCIe 10GBase-T Thank you in advance for your help. lionelhutz
I would expect Z690 motherboards would be more likely to have good IOMMU groupings for assigning cards to VM's. Quote Link to comment
simo241
The z690 is overkill for this kind of processor, this is very basic one, the z690 is good when you need to overclock the processor , to be honest i really dont want spend 200-300 more for this kind of processor, i own already another machine with a z690 asus maximum hero and 12900k . lionelhutz
Fair enough, I've just found that entry level boards can have poor IOMMU groupings which make it range from more difficult to impossible when trying to assign things like USB cards to a VM. Quote Link to comment
