May 6, 201115 yr I have an issue since I upgraded to Unraid 5.0 b6a. I ran New Permissions, and everything plays great from the PC. However, when I go to my popcorn hour it will only play files that are old, if I add a file it won't play it until I re-run New Permissions. How can I fix this? EDIT: I've confirmed this is a bug with the beta. I would prefer some type of feedback by limetech confirming that it also happens on their test systems. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=12827.msg122128#msg122128
May 6, 201115 yr That's strange. I run the same version and have no problems with my Popcorn Hour (A200). Are you adding files direct to the drives or through a user share
May 6, 201115 yr Author That's strange. I run the same version and have no problems with my Popcorn Hour (A200). Are you adding files direct to the drives or through a user share I've done both. Also, when I run New Permissions it doesn't seem to finish. I just re-ran it and it stopped on Disk9 with no errors, just stopped going. I have 20 data disks. The only configuration i've changed from 4.7 is setting up a read only user account for the popcorn hour (you can delete files using the popcorn hour and someone deleted a few movies by mistake, so I made the popcorn hour use a read only account)
May 6, 201115 yr Author Ok I am not running any security. I wonder if that is the difference That's the main reason why I upgraded, since 5.0 does users differently, and 4.7 wouldn't do what I wanted it too. I'm really hoping this is not the case.

Is the command line involved?

May 8, 201115 yr Anyone have any idea? Anything done from the linux command line when logged in as "root" will require re-running the permissions script.
May 8, 201115 yr Author Anyone have any idea? Anything done from the linux command line when logged in as "root" will require re-running the permissions script. I'm not using the linux command line in any way. I'm just transferring from Windows 7 PCs.

Hi Joe I am a little mystified by this as you made the same claim in another post (which I responded to but you didn't respond to me). I use MC from a root command logon (via Putty) to copy files around my unRaid box. I also use a PopCornHour to play these files and I have never once had to run the permissions utility. The files have always been instatntly visible to the Popcorn (once of course you refresh the PopCorn directory if you happen to be sitting in it at the time.

Do you mean that the file is there but won't actually play at all, or that you just can't see it in the directory listing on the Popcorn. Not wishing to teach Grandmothers to suck eggs etc but you obviously refreshed the PopcornHour directory, beacuse they don't auto refresh.

It's there and I see it with the popcorn hour, but when I click it it attempts to load and then just fails and goes back to the list, no error message. I've confirmed that re-running New Permissions fixes it everytime. The file plays fine on both my PCs even without running New Permissions. I've tried cold booting the entire network, all my devices, etc just to make sure it's not a "refresh" issue. I believe it's related to having the popcorn hour use my 2nd user account entitled "guest", which is read only... but that's the reason why I upgraded.
May 9, 201115 yr Author I've confirmed this as a bug. It is definitely related to using an account other than "root" to sign into unraid. This renders "users" completely useless until fixed. If I sign in on the popcorn hour using "root", I can access new files fine even without running "new permissions". If I sign in using "guest" I cannot, if I run "new permissions" it will then work, but any new files added after that will not work until I re-run it. I tried giving "guest" the same permissions (read and write) as root, and I'm still required to re-run new permissions everytime. There is definitely a bug here. I've tested this 3 times with 3 different files to confirm my theory is correct. Can I please get an official post confirming that this is indeed a bug with unRAID and not my system? Here's a picture of my users/share.
May 9, 201115 yr Just guessing, but sounds like a umask problem. You have a root password, right? Can you try setting up another user, say "owner", who copies the files?

I copy the files using "root". So you want me use only "root" for webui and stuff? Then make "Owner" and "Guest"? One having read/write and the other just read?

Did some initial testing with making 2 users accounts "admin" and "guest". I sign on my PC with admin which is set to read/write, and every other device signs on to guest which is read-only. I transferred a new file and it's permissions are set to everyone. Seems to have fixed it.

I have specific owners set up for different directories and had not seen this "issue" as I never use root to write data since upgrading to 5.X.
