May 7, 201115 yr I am very new to unraid and linux. I have tried to test what I can and research the best I can but; without a fundamental knowledge of linux I am not sure where to look for answers. My syslog does not want to attach for some reason, zipped or otherwise. It is well below the size limit. I can paste it in a reply, it will just be a wall of text. Issue: when trying to copy to any drive from my Windows 7 machine to the Unraid server the transfer starts out as expected. Initial transfer rates are in the 50-70MB/s range after a few seconds they drop to 5-10MB/s; after another minute or so I get an error that the destination is no longer available. I have no issues at all using the same hardware and booting into windows 7 and transferring the same amount of data. I also have tried to transfer files from 2 differnet source machines and have the same issue. Data used in testing. WOW folder (30gb), or Media folder with various VOB/ISO files, or single 3gb ISO, Media folder with various sized photos Tests: No cache drive used to test individual disks. Parity canceled, All disks are in AHCI mode • I have replaced SATA cables with new Cables. • I have moved disks around on all 6 ports on the board. • Copy data to a single Unraid disk, used the disk share to copy to one drive. • Copy data to a level 2 spanned folder using 3+ disks • I have enabled advanced ACPI features, and tried completely disabling it in the bios Unraid Version 4.7 (issues were present before any add-ons installed) UnMenu Installed Screen Installed PreClear Installed System specs Mother Board: P6t Deluxe V2 stock values no OC CPU : Intel i7-930 (2.8GHz) Ram: Corsair triple Channel 6GB (TR3X6G1600C8D) have tried with just 2 modules Memtest overnight without errors on all modules Hard drives : Temperatures during preclear have not exceeded 41c on any drive. • Hitachi_HDS7220 x 2 • Hitachi_HDS7230 ( Newly purchased) • ST3300831AS_3NF0DF7C • ST31000528AS
May 7, 201115 yr Although not sure what may be going on, here are a few thoughts... First off, WOW - that is one heck of a beast system for unRaid. When copying and you get the error that the destination is unavailable, what is the state of unRaid? Can you still ping it? Can you still get to the website? On your local machine, can you still ping your gateway? For your syslog, if you cannot attach it, use the "code" button, the "pound" sign, and past it in between that. That way won't fill up a whole screen. Really need to see the syslog though to see of something else is going on... Shawn
May 7, 201115 yr Author Yeah this is one of my hand down gaming machines. Figure I could use it for something productive. The unraid is still up and running completely there. I did a simple ping test during it and did not drop any pings. attaching the syslog, I couldnt find any relavent errors, but again I don't know what I don't know to look for. I have another test.. Previously I was attatching a parti drive, but cancelling the sync. If I do not assign the parity drive it works fine. May 8, 201115 yr If you try the copy again immediately after the failure does it then compete? Try it 3 or 4 times if needed.
May 8, 201115 yr Marvell nic. 5.0 may like it better, but Marvell is the one nic vendor I've had worse luck with than Realtek. Have you watched the console to see if you're losing link? After one of these slowdowns what do you get from: ethtool -S eth0
May 8, 201115 yr Author The link wasn't going down at all. I am not sure if it was just my process or what but it doesn't seem to be an issue now. Previously I would assign a parity disk and just cancell the sync then try the copy. This time I didn't asign the disk and did the copies without error. I let the parity sync happen overnight and no issues today moving files around. The only thing that changed was my process in the last set of tests, so I can only assume I was trying to copy while the inital parity was still stopping and it was causing issues. At this poiint I am up and running without issues. Time to play and tweak.
May 9, 201115 yr I had the same issue and solved it by disabling pnp os in the bios settings on my Win7 machine.
