nfo Generation software for TV shows & Movies

Featured Replies

Does anybody know of a good software package to scan my unRAID server that will generate nfo files to hold the information for my tv shows and of course links to images, etc? or even better one that saves the images locally?

I believe the two main ones are YANFOE and Ember Media Manager Revisited.

I use EMM, just make sure you get the settings right for naming the artwork for what you need it for, ie XBMC or YAMJ.

Any work with a Mac for TV Shows?  I've been using Messy Media Manager for my movies.

I have had problems with Ember in the past. I used one I found on the XBMC forums called xMM2. http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=85696 It worked pretty well and was quite simple to use, although I still get confused about the XBMC fanart and such so I tend to just let XBMC handle it all (which it does quite well)

I might have to give that xMM2 a try. I like how it displays the sets.

I run my EMM in virtualbox as I'm running ubuntu.

I've been using Ember for years but with inconsistent results. I just downloaded YANFOE  yesterday as I have never heard of it before and it seemed to have worked a lot better. It fills in all the missing information from Ember.

Although I love the Export Movie List templates available through Ember too much to get rid of it.

I'll have to give Yanfoe a go......

Never really had a big issue with EMM though for YAMJ.

I've been a user of Media Companion for ages.  It's been very good and easy to use, but recent support has been lacking.

Tried EMM but got so confused by the interface I said 'Na, not for me'.

I might have to give this YANFOE a looksee.

BTW,  still using Media Companion as all I do is scrape for XBMC4Xbox and XBMC live, hasn't done me wrong yet... 8)

OK, took one look at YANFOE and sorry, last build was Feb 2011, and no TV Support.

Back to Media Companion till something better comes along.

I tried V2 today that is supposed to have TV support but its still early in development and doesnt seem to work right for me. Although the nfo files fill out a lot better then with Ember. Half the time Ember wont get the genre/writer/directors on my experience.

I'm a big fan of MC myself. it's gone open source in the last few months, and I think judging by the pages, that the next update should be incoming soon.

Never steered me wrong yet.

They've moved the code to codeplex site, and just started Weeklies[/]

http://mediacompanion.codeplex.com/releases/view/57958

Will check out what they've fixed/added.

And there's always the XBMC Thread for Media Companion http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=53640

Great to see this is getting the support needed, not saying anything bad about Billy, I know he's done a fantastic job!

Do all the NFOs generation software create the same NFOs?

Are they all compatible with XBMC, YAMJ, PLEX, etc...?

Not sure.  I believe YAMJ attempts to follow XBMCs schema--I know a lot of attributes overlap.

My friend uses XBMC and I've gotten movies from him and re-used the XML files without a problem.
