[PLUGIN] ZFS Master

Featured Replies

Small request, would it be possible for the pool size to match the actual "useable" size vs the entire size + zfs overhead? If I have a 200TB pool, zfs master reports around 200TB vs the 120 or so with the parity + overhead. I don't know if this is possible but it would make it really handy for setting quotas, so we can see exactly how much we have without pulling out a calculator every time. :) The dataset size seems decently accurate, so I usually just add up all used space from each dataset then subtract that from the useable space from zfs pool info then calculate out how big to make my quotas.

Sorry if this already have been covered somewhere in this thread!

But I am having a problem removing old appdata folders after deleting dockers.
They are all "greyed" out on ZFS master but when I select to destroy them I get permission denied.

I have rebooted the server multiple times.

I have stopped Krusader I heard that could cause issues...
I havent stopped the server before destroying the dataset, should I?

Unmount the dataset first by setting mountpoint to "none" or stopping the array.

Thanks for the report, I'll be fixing this and reviewing other issues that come up with the style changes on Unraid 7.1.X next week.

Hmm, this is a little more than a week. Hopefully you are ok, and you are busy with the life outside Unraid. I like your plugin and hope it will be maintained in the future. Thanks for the great plugin.

Is the ZFS -Master plugin still maintained ? Since 2024.12.08 no change anymore. For me, ZFS was the main feature for starting with Unraid and without a maintained ZFS master It's not really attractive. Any plans to implement ZFS master fully in the Os, not only as a plugin? I know ZFS was not the core idea of Unraid and most users use the classical Unraid array, but it could be attractive for a lot of other ZFS NAS users (TNas).

I’m wondering how this calculates sizes, free space, raw and used don’t make any sense. The numbers are wildly off from actually used free and raw. Anyone else notice this? I’m about to stop using the plugin but unraid doesn’t natively give you that info does it?

Pls. Read the full thread about the size calculation. It’s caused by how the T-G- Bytes calculated 1000 vs 1024 bytes per Kilobyte vor example. I use the master from beginning on, so I have no idea with out. To my impression Unraid has implemented ZFS to show customers „we have it as well „ future will show they do more with this feature.

ZFS Master may need an update with the current 7.2-rc2 (and rc1 as well but that isn't current now). When this plugin is installed it causes the Unraid Connect icon to disappear on the Main tab. It doesn't prevent it from working in other areas but it is definitely annoying and I had to dig a little to figure out the cause.

It seems author decided to stop supporting plugin, no updates for almost a year, technically plugin just adds more visual information about datasets and snapshots, but honestly it is not really important, because anyway Unraid doesn't understand when you pool has errors, nothing will notify you, so Lime Technologies sold "ZFS" support as feature, but only @Iker really supported ZFS feature and community, nobody from LT did this and these people increase price for Unraid license ... 🤣

Circus.

I like this plugin. Not good if it just fades away. :/

Hi d3m3zs, you are the new maintainer? This was hopefully not a joke. I came from T-Nas and bought a one-year license after reading the Unraid promotion "We now have ZFS". It was promising after checking it with ZFS-Master, expecting a maintenance and expansion of features.

The reality.... is well known. I didn't extend my license this Black Friday because of the possibility of going back to T-Nas. My decision process isn't finalized yet. Thanks for showing it is possible to maintain.

@b52 I am not maintainer, I just updated zfs master plugin for myself, I can share it, installation is manually, just copy 2 files and install from plugin page.

But anyway it is inventing wheel, Lime Tech should create similar plugin, support it and integrate to system.

Hi @d3m3zs , I'd really be interested to see what you did. Do you have a Github repository?

Is anyone else having issue with the zfs master populating anything on the main page? Occassionally all of my directory listing just dissapear, and randomly re-appear?

I had the same issue. Setting in Zfs-Master-settings the refresh intervall to 30 min could cure it. Anyhow, a not maintained, dying plugin is in the long run a problem. The interesting part of the game is the reaction from the Unraid officials (quietness). Advertising can be an alternative reality.

I just came here to post the same.

Just a blank page. I cant say I use it often, but I have never seen a blank page before. On the latest unraid version.

Just wanted to post that I got it back. Now sure which - or both, of these changed it - I turned OFF the auto refresh and turned off the lazy load :

It seems Lime Tech sucks, increased price and no real updates, even responsive design is joke.

ya the whole thing is kind of hokey. i am trying to do a zfs replication from unraid to Truenas with the Truenas module. The naming convention i can't figure out. This should all be built into Unraid.

Have you tried znapzend? I know some people are wary because the project looked abandoned or whatever, but I've been using it for years now and it still works just fine. The only workaround I had to implement was a cron job to check if it was running and restart it if it wasn't because sometimes it would stop.

hey, will have a look, thanks!

Just wondering if this is normal expected behavior.

I have 2 cache pools:

  1. 2 drive BTRFS pool (called cache)

  2. 2 drive ZFS pool (called nvmecache)

I used the ZFS master plugin to make a new testing dataset on the root of my nvmecache (/mnt/nvmecache/testdataset)

The data set was made and all appeared normal, however, if I go into the shares tab on the unRAID GUI I have a new share. It is called testdataset and it is set to use my cache pool, not the nvmecache pool.

Is it normal for it to create a share like that? Especially using the wrong pool?

It is if you create shares (which is any top level folder) without using the GUI, if you create that share using the GUI, and select the zfs pool, it will create a dataset, and the share will then show correctly on the GUI then.
