My Unraid server has random freezes

Featured Replies

Hello All,

I have been seeing random freezes on my Unraid server (6.9.2). I started capturing logs; however, I am unable to pinpoint the error. There has been no hardware changes whatsoever. Will someone be kind enough to look at the attached log and provide some guidance?

Thank you!

It would be more useful to provide your diagnostics.

However, from your signature I see the memory at 3600MHz, it's way off the supported speed :

Thank for ChatNoir for the prompt reply. I have attached the diagnostic in the above post. Is that not the right one? As for the RAM, I am not using any xmp profiles. It is just stock speed. Is there any way in Unraid for me to see the RAM timings? Also, I have had the same setup for over a year. This just started happening fairly recently. The only thing I update are the dockers when there is an update.

No, thats the syslog, the diagnostics provide much more information and includes the syslog. Check the link for details on how to get the diagnostics.

As for your question about actual memory speed, its included in the diags. ;)

Thank you for guiding me in the right direction. I have attached the diagnostic here; however, I am not sure if it will have any insight as to why the server froze this morning. I appreciate your guidance.

We can at least confirm that your memory speed is OK (even lower than supported).

To confirm, when you say that your system freezes, it cannot recover and you have to reboot ?

If that's the case, we will not be able to that on the diagnostics after reboot since the log is stored in RAM and lost on reboot. You should set up a syslog server and attach this log file after the next crash.

That's what I thought. That's why I set up the syslog server so I can see what might be the culprit. In the syslog attached in the original post, I believe the server froze at round 4am EDT. When it freezes, it is completely unresponsive. I have to do a hard shutdown and restart to bring it back online.

Your syslog is filling with these:

Apr 13 07:55:53 teshomatic kernel: resource sanity check: requesting [mem 0x000c0000-0x000fffff], which spans more than PCI Bus 0000:00 [mem 0x000c0000-0x000dffff window]
Apr 13 07:55:53 teshomatic kernel: caller _nv000651rm+0x1ad/0x200 [nvidia] mapping multiple BARs

I don't use nvidia and maybe it isn't related, but doesn't seem normal to have your syslog spammed like that. What happens if you remove the nvidia plugin?

There is a 11 hours gap at the begining, so maybe it cashed, can't say.

However, there are several call traces like that :

MACVLAN is a known issue with docker containers with a custom IP.

I suggest that you update to 6.10.0 RC4 and switch your docker network to IPVLAN.

It makes it difficult to scan the log for issues at least.

I noticed that as well, but wasn't sure if it was normal or not. I use the Nvidia Driver plugin by ich777 for Plex transcoding. I can remove it and have the cpu do the transcoding and see if that fixes the issue.

Quick update: I did some more digging and found those errors? are caused by GPU statistics by b3rs3rk. I removed the plugin and the errors have now disappeared.

I am going to read up on RC4 and issues to ensure it won't break anything else before upgrading

Same here. I have the HM90 with AMD Ryzen 9 4900H.

Everytime I "play" with Dockers my system freezes.

I also got a crash while installing a VM (Debian). First I thought my USB-Drives causing the error, so I disconnected all of them. In BIOS I disabled C States. I also did a fresh Unraid Installation, but the time I install some Docker I starts again.. mostly Plex. I don't know what to do.  I spend 5 days trying to figure out what the problem is. HELP! :(

p.s. maybe it has something to do with the network config? I tried to set up Phiole again, clicked on the Button to finish .. and just like that - system crashed again.

Short update: I disabled "bonding" in the network settings. Since that no more freezes. I will continue testing. Wish me luck. ;)
