April 20, 20224 yr Hello I'd like to build a 24 bay Plex server that will run 24/7. It won't need to do any more than 5 transcodes at once, but I would like to use Handbrake sometimes as well. I'm looking at either of these two cases as they're pretty affordable: https://www.techbuy.com.au/p/430798/CASINGS_SERVER_-_4U/TGC/TGC-4824.asp https://www.skycomp.com.au/tgc-dh-4024-12gb-02-4u-server-case-w-24-x-35-or-25-hot-swap-sata-sas-drive-bays-12gb-s-minisas-825605.html One has a 6Gbps backplane and the other has a 12Gbps backplane. If I can plug a 6Gbps hard drive into the 12Gbps backplane I'll probably just get the 12Gbps backplane one for future-proofing and speed if it'll help at all. I'll be populating the server at first with 11 hard drives and adding more in the future. I'm very inexperienced when it comes to PC hardware so I'd be very grateful if someone could recommend what hardware to get for this build based on my needs. I'll also need to get an HBA/SAS Expander, but once again I have no idea which one 😂 On another note, if someone here is in Melbourne, Australia, and wants to build this thing for me, I'll happily pay you well for your time, no PC building place I've called/emailed has experience with this kind of thing.
April 21, 20224 yr I'm not as diverse as some here, but on your expander just make sure you shy away from MARVEL chip sets since they have been very known to be problematic with unraid.
