Directory/finder problems using Mac OS 10.6 and Unraid 5.0b6

Featured Replies

We have been enjoying our Unraid server very much and appreciate all the help from the board! We are a photography studio and we shoot photo projects around the country for companies like IBM and 3M etc. We have been using 4.6 and have recently tried updating to 5.0 b6 and are having the following problem after following the upgrade instructions very carefully:

One of my shares is showing up in the Finder/directory  window but the contents are not in the folder. I can see the contents from the Unraid control panel under the share tab but I can't access the contents in any way. This folder or directory is where we keep our backups which are generated from finder copies or from backup programs.

It's also worth noting that my backup program crashes the Unraid server after it completes a backup, forcing a restart of the server. I've tried a couple of different back up programs with the same result.

Thanks so much for the help, please let me know if I can provide any additional information, I really want this product to work out!

I recommend running 4.7 in a production environment. Disk Utility allows you to configure auto-mounting NFS shares. I'm currently testing TimeMachine using a 2 disk user share under 5.0b6 but it'll take 5 more months until I can trust it, due to unRAIDs unique architecture.

I agree V4.7 in your situation would seem more logical, is there a reason why you chose to upgrade from 4.6 to 5.0b6 rather than 4.7?

Probably same reason I did--AFP support.  But that seems to have vanished (at least writability) recently.

Since Disk Utility allows the configuration of Auto-mount NFS shares, AFP support is only really required for TimeMachine support. TimeMachine to a disk share or single disk user share seems to be reliable.

As it turns out the problems were RAM related and not with the update at all. Memtest discovered a bad stick of RAM  and once it was replaced the system has stabilized.

I have however reverted back to 4.7 based on the advice given here. I managed to get the NFS share to auto mount although I'm still having a few issues with getting specific shares to boot where I want them to.

Basically I'm just thrilled that my backups are working and my setup seems reliable. Thank you for all the help!
