Assigning new drive stays unassigned

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I have tried looking for a solution here, but have not found one.

I am on Unraid 6.9.2

I currently have a 3 drives setup (8tb parity + 2x 4tb) and I bought a new 10tb I want to assign as parity and transfer the 8tb to a normal storage drive.

The issue comes when I try to assign the new 10tb drive anywhere:

  • The dropdown will still show up as "unassigned", but the drive will also disappear from the unassigned devices.
  • I tried starting the array this way to see if it would still pop up once started, but no, doing this pretty much makes the drive disappear from unraid.
  • The only way to make the drive reappear is to assign a different drive on the dropdown I tried to assign the 10tb on.

Other information that could help:

  • The new 10tb drive does not have a readable temperature
  • The SMART attributes and capabilities of the new 10tb drive can not be read
  • I am not able to run a SMART self-test on the new drive
  • The SMART status of the new drive is reported as "healthy" on the dashboard

Drive is not even giving a valid SMART report, looks like disk problem.
