Strange root password issue with SSL

Featured Replies

New user to UnRAID here:

Working on evaluating UnRAID - had the password set on the root account, turned on SSL in: Settings, Management Access, Use SSL/TLS: set to 'Yes'.  Password is working just fine, able to manage the server over https.

Was following along on SpaceInvader's video on setting up 'My Servers' and got to the section on remote access using a Let's Encrypt certificate from Lime Technology.  The instructions said to change Use SSL/TLS to 'Auto'  After doing this, I could no longer login to the web interface - invalid password error.  So, thinking I probably didn't save the password correctly into the password manager, I followed the instruction on the link about forgot password: shut down the server, pulled the flash drive, installed the flash drive into another computer and deleted the files:

config/passwd

config/shadow

config/smbpasswd

Safely removed the flash drive, installed in the server again, booted, and voila - able to access the web interface without password.

So, I set another root password - making sure it was properly recorded in the password manager.  After setting it (SSL is still set to Auto and still accessing the web interface over http, not https) Incorrect password and unable to login to the web interface again.

So, after finding another post about SSL - powered off the server, removed the flash drive, installed it into another computer, using Notepad++, edited the ident.cfg in the /config folder changing USE_SSL="auto" and set it to "yes"

Installed the flash drive back into the server and hurrah! Login to the server was working using the password set just a few minutes before over http.

Any thoughts about what's going on here?
