(Solved) Empty Shares

Featured Replies

i don't know what i did (i tried to downgrade to 4.7, which i messed up, then i replaced the bzimage and bzroot files to get back to 5.06b), but i used to have the following user shares

   audio_book

   blu_ray

   movies

   music

   pictures

   tv_shows

all of the shares had something in them. after rebooting to 5.06b i seemed to only have the tv_shows share left. i looked at the syslog, but it doesn't make any sense to me. i have created the shares again (since the data is still on the drives) and ran a parity check (which came back fine), but there are still no files in my shares. can someone here with more linux experience (which will be probably anyone) take a look at this for me.

this is the error that i am seeing

after upgrading to beta 5 did you run the permission script as noted in the release notes ?

could be a permissions issue

i still have no shares. is there a way to delete the shares from the flash drive? i deleted the files in /root/config/shares

is there another file that i have to delete to start fresh?

I've also just moved to 5b7 and noticed the shares acting up.  Unraid is automatically creating a number of shares for directories such as "Network Trash" and other temporary folders.  There's also no option to delete them

Is anyone else having this problem?

That is because OS X is creating those folders.  It is not necessarily and unRAID problem.  You could leave those folders on the drives and then set those shares up as read/write hidden so they do not show up as shares on the network.

Understand that OSX is creating the folders, but why are they showing up as shares?

Because unRAID creates User Shares from every top level folder.  So every folder on disk1 that is at the root of the drive (i.e. the first folder level) will have a User Share created for it.  That is the way the User Share system is designed.

thanks for the explanation

I would delete the share config files and try stopping and starting the array. unRAID should pick up any top level directories and create user shares from them. If the directory is there you should not have to create the share. The share would appear with default settings and then you would just adjust the settings. I'm thinking there might be a file or 2 in the config directory but I'm not 100% sure and I have no access to my machine (and no 5.0b install anyways).

You could try keeping only your key file and erasing everything else on the flash and then just extract the new release files onto it.

does anyone know what the files are that controls the shares? i have deleted all the files in the /root/config/shares folder already, but i still can not create a new share (and when i manage to create one, unraid tells me that there is 0kb free in the share)

OK, something is damaged in your setup. Every existing share should automatically appear on the shares setup page without you having to "create" it first. I would start over with the flash drive and see if that helps.

You can check the existing shares. Go to each disk and look at the contents. Every top-level directory that is on the disk is turned into a user share when user shares are turned on.

Do a checkdisk of the flash drive on your Windows machine (I believe chkdsk.exe at the command line). If that is OK and it still doesn't work then I would delete the files and replace them with the ones from the release zip.

peter,

i am not at home right now, but if i delete all the files on the flash how will it know that i have a pro license? is it built into the flash somehow?

kingpin

There is a key file or a file with a .key extension or something like that on the flash. You just have to keep it.

thanks for the advice

EDIT:

Reformatted the flash drive, reloaded the software, reassigned all the drives. Rebuilding the parity now, but all the shares are there and seem to be working.

thank you to everyone who took the time to help me.

Everything is up and running again!!! Thank you
