May 15, 201115 yr seems to make really loud humming can u change the fans on these? and is there a way to maybe stop the hard drives vibrating?
May 16, 201115 yr I know a few people have complained about drive vibrating. Not sure how to help you with that, but most likely because of somewhat flimsy trays. All screws nice and tight? As per my review of these... Fan is removable but not easily replaceable, custom 2 cable soldered to connector, 80mm -Drive trays pretty flimsy, almost feel like plastic So, you can replace, but it is not easy. Like soldering? Maybe contact Icy Dock direct and see about RMA? Shawn
May 16, 201115 yr With 7200 rpm drives, I've stuffed a bit of paper between the latch to lessen vibrations. It was ghetto but it helped. I'd love to hear better suggestions. I was tempted to put some sugru or silicone on the latch but never did. 5400/5900 drives haven't been as bad.
May 16, 201115 yr From what I remember about the fan on that unit (owned one breifly for a server I never got round to building) it has a one off plastic fan connector on the PCB at the back. I think for speed of swapping it over and neatness, I unsoldered the wires at the fan end of the stock fan, and soldered them onto my replacement fan at the fan end I mean. So the new replacement fans connector, became the one off connector.

This is the first time I've heard of this so I'm interested. Mine never had a problem with the trays, they fit quite snug. Is it possible you have one that's not sitting in the track? What make/model of drive are you using?

May 17, 201115 yr Sorry - I think some of us confused - see Icy Box and thinking Icy Dock. Is this a picture of the back of yours? This is what I found when I looked it up. From the pic and a manual I found, you should be able to replace with any 80x80x25, 3pin fan. Sorry for the confusions - these are not the Icy Dock we all think about. Shawn

Shawn do u think any 80x80x25, 3pin fan will just clip on the back?
May 17, 201115 yr As per the video, the fan assembly just unclips from the cage. The fan is probably snapped into that assembly, so replaceing it should be easy... Lot easier then some other cages I have looked at. Shawn

Shawn That little fan cools all the drives? It is not even centered.
