Windows 10\11: USB Game device not fully recognized when passed through. Game buttons not recognized.

Featured Replies

Atari Fight stick with spinner and trackball

Version: 6.10.0-rc8

When I connected this universal game controller to Unraid Windows 10\11 vms set to passthrough. The gaming buttons are not recognized.  The spinner and mouse work as expected.

Internally this gaming device has a USB hub with three USB devices connected. The gaming buttons are hardware mapped as keyboard keys on a standard USB HID Keyboard device. The spinner is a mouse device, and trackball is another mouse device.

To verify the game controller works correctly I connected it to another Windows 10 system and a RasberryPi; both systems handle the game controller as expected: 1 USB HID keyboard and 2 USB mouse devices. Plug it in and it automatically uses the standard keyboard driver and standard mouse driver.

The Unraid MSI motherboard BIOS recognizes the game controller correctly. When plugged into a USB port the BIOS adds 1 Keyboard, 2 mouse, and 1 hub devices. This is in addition to the standard keyboard and mouse that is used for normal input.

Here is what is being passed through.

In the windows 10 device manager, the spinner and trackball show up as expected as additional mouse devices (HID-compliant mouse), but the additional HID-Keyboard Device is missing.

Any ideas or suggestions as to why the additional HID-Keyboard Device is missing, yet the spinner and trackball both appear as mouse devices and work correctly?

Nice I built in the past one of these myself with an old keyboard board.

So you are emulating the usb controller; which emulated controller type did you use?Did you try with other types?

I'm afraid but if it's still missing the only option could be passing a usb controller and attach the joystick..

What is the device that is not showing in your image?

I did not build this game controller myself; it came fully assembled from Microcenter. I did put together the Unraid system with the help of Space Invader One videos.

I am passing through all the USB hardware that is possible. As shown above, the two Baolian devices and SimpleTech Touro Desk 3.0 are internal parts of the game controller (1 USB hub, 1 USB HID keyboard device, 2 HID mouse compliant devices).  The two mice devices are the spinner and trackball, they work as expected when passed through. A single USB cable connects the game controller to the PC. This is a plug-n-play device, uses existing drivers and no additional software is required for the game controller to work with arcade games (ie MAME).

I can't figure out why the buttons are not being recognized as keyboard keys
