May 18, 201115 yr I bought the plus key yesterday and put a 4th drive in my machine it's clearing now. While it is clearing the drives with my data on are not showing up and in the control panel they're simply flashing on/off in green. I take it once the 4th drive has finished clearing they will come back on line? Please end my panic! lol. This is the page I am referring to: Model / Serial No. Temperature Size Free Reads Writes Errors parity WDC_WD20EARS-00M_WD-WMAZA0268048 * 1,953,514,552 - 59 48 0 disk1 WDC_WD20EARS-00M_WD-WMAZA0420587 * 1,953,514,552 - 68 25 0 disk2 WDC_WD20EARS-00M_WD-WMAZA0605248 * 1,953,514,552 - 67 25 0 disk3 WDC_WD20EADS-00S2B0_WD-WCAVY1999822 * 1,953,514,552 Clearing - - - Thanks, Thomas.

If you did not pre-clear the disk being added, then yes, it is completely normal. The array will be off-line until it finishes clearing the drive. The clear process for a 2TB drive will take between 5 and 10 hours. (depending on the speed of your disk and the disk controller) Since most disks can only be written to at an average speed of about 50 to 75MB/s, all you can do is wait. If you pre-clear the disk before adding it to your array, you do not need to have the array off-line for such an extended period of time.
May 18, 201115 yr Author Thank you for the quick reply, it's got me back to my normal relaxed state 60% since yesterday afternoon so taking it's time! I'm in no rush, just didn't want anything to happen to my data. Thanks again, Thomas.

Once you get used to having the server available, if your family is like mine, they will not want it off-line for such a long time. It is why I created the preclear_disk.sh script. Joe L.
