way to match random identification disks to Serial number?

Featured Replies

hi all,

Building 2 new nas (Dell PowerShot R420), i've set the raid controller to have 4 VD so unraid can manage the disks by himself. Until now everything is working great.

My only problem is the identification disks (see below). normally that's the serial number of the disk itself that is written there. I know i can rename the identification but unraid seems to not know the serial number of each disk,,, And in my raid controller i labelled each one with the serial number of the disk already, and i can't see either the identification number shown in unraid in my raid controller.

Maybe i missed something, your help could be very usefull - Thank in advance !

That’s a limitation of the RAID controller you are using.

i was thinking of booting 3 times with 3 disk unmounted on the raid controller so i can see what random identification number is associate to the physical drive but i don't know if it will messed up my array.

Best bet would be getting a true HBA, like an LSI, besides the issue you're having now you will also run into issues in the future if for example you need to replace that controller with a different model.
