Device disabled, smart test failing with host reset error

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm new-ish to the self managing of servers world. My disk started throwing this error after being offline for about 2 weeks. Rest of the disks are fine. When i try to run the self test, i keep getting the same host reset error. Attached is the test rests. Please let me know what i should do.

My usage is minimum, and the disks are essentially 6-8 months old.

disable spindown on the disk and try again.

Hi @trurl, it looks like i can't run the extended test via the gui. I keep getting "Interrupted (host reset)". I've set the Spin Down Delay to "Never".

It doesn't allow you to run it, or it just doesn't complete?

It never completes @trurl. It shows the "Stop" button as soon as i hit "Start" and then 10-20 seconds later, it shows "Interrupted (host reset)".

Update

I believe i got it to run. Its still at 10% but it hasn't quit or anything.

With that large disk it will take many hours and you may not see update on % for a long time if at all. Just let it run until  it completes if it will.

It only updates every 10%, and since the check can typically take 1 - 2 hours per TB the extended check can take a long time to complete.

Oh wow. It looks like its stopped again.

Is there anything else i can try ?

Hi @trurl, yes that's the case. I've stopped it and tried running the tests. I can run the tests on the other disks.

Ok update again, i took the array offline. Remove the disk from the assigned pool, started the array in maintenance mode without the disk in the pool, its now showing "Not Installed" in that slot. Now running the enhanced test, it seems to be running fine.
