help on mobo selection regarding NIC

Featured Replies

hi guys looking for hopefully a difinitive answer on weather this board im looking at is going to be a problem.

i'm looking at the Asus M4A78LT-M-LE 760G

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3/M4A78LTM_LE/#specifications

which apparently has an atheros NIC which i can't seem to clarify with google searches but apparently people are saying this could be an issue?

i'm just curious because the hardware compatibility page says atheros is supported

http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=Hardware_Compatibility#Network_Controllers

i can get this board for $55 AU and i really like it because of the fact it has 6 sata ports.

there is another board in the same price but it only has 4 sata ports but has a realtek nic.

my only other option is another board with 6 ports and a realtek RTL8111E Gigabit lan but it is $78.

if anyone can give me a difinitive answer on weather this board will cause me a problem it would be greatly appreciated.

Look on the same Wiki Page in the Motherboard Overview, there it says about the MoBo you want to use: *Issues with NIC onboard LAN. Works well for some users if using cheap PCI LAN Card.

So you have the choice, buy this board and a cheap ethernet card or use the M4A78LT-M (without the LE), that is working in my system without problems.

the problem is the board you talk about doesn't seem to exist for sale over here in australia that i can find.

can you link the its specs page and does it have 6 sata ports?

the only boards i can find here with m4a78lt-m have LE in there name.

i guess i'll just go with the Asus M4A88T-M which has the realtek nic and 6 sata ports for the $78.

will cost me about $30 for a cheap pci lan card anyway so this will be the better option as it wont take up a pci slot that i can later use for expansion slots.

thanks.
