New hardware = lost streaming?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have just upgraded the hardware in my unRAID from some old test-hardware to something new.

I'm using the Abit AB9 Pro motherboard with the Realtek LAN Controller chipset.

My client is a Windows XP laptop using 54 Mbit/s wlan.

After this upgrade I'm not able to stream movies and music anymore without heavy stutter.

I have been testing back and forth using this little tool http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=1205.0 - and it seems that the bandwidth usage is jumping a lot when streaming a movie. The bandwidth usage can be around 500 KB/s when streaming a DVD movie, and then it just goes down to around 0.2 KB/s for a few seconds. The drop in bandwidth usage happens every 5 secs. or so.

Now to the "fun" part. If I stream a movie and then start to copy (or any other acitivty on the unRAID share) a file to or from the unRAID share the movie streams without any stutter. Very strange?

I hope someone can shred some light on this issue.

???

Thanks.

Søren

I think the driver for the realtek is causing the problem.

Maybe Tom can clarify.

Cool_runner, I think you are right.

I have just tryed disabeling the build in network controllers, and adding an old D-Link 10/100 mbit/s PCI network controller and this seems to fix the issue.

Thanks,

Søren
