[SOLVED] Major issue

Help anyone,

I wanted to reset my unraid pro config back to zero, without any third-party utilities.

In doing so I've backed up my unraid server stick to another one.

I've replaced the software version on my old stick with the 4.7 basic one and copied my license key back on to it.

When booting unraid started up in basic mode (which was no good).

So I thought no panic and copie my backup back to my usb device. At launch unraid starts up in basic mode.

How can I get or activate my pro license again ?

What are the results when you enter: "ls /boot/config" on the command line?

ls /boot/config shows a list of all my config (.cfg files) files including the Pro1.key

When I compare the files with my backup of the files (in a folder on a hard disk) all files are identical.

I've copied the backup files on the same original stick with the same GUID so this should be working but isn't.

The license is tied to the ID of the flash drive.  You cannot use the same pro.key file on another flash drive.

Is Pro1.key the correct name? Isn't it Pro.key?

It just looks for the .key extension.  It does not care about the name itself.  First .key it finds, it uses.

I think I wasn't clear enough so in short:

I've copied all files (including hidden) to a backup unraid folder (on a hard disk), cleared my original licensed usb stick and recopied all files back to my original usb stick.

So GUID of the stick stays the same cause it is the same stick.

Though when booting unraid doesn't recognize my pro license anymore (although the file is on the stick), but instead I have a basic license for two disks

What do I need to do more to reactivate my license ?

Otherwise my stick is garbage.

Did you reformat the stick or just delete the files from it.  It is possible that there are file system errors on the stick which could prevent the .key file from being accessed correctly by unRAID.  If you've not yet done so I would try a format of the stick before you restore the files to it.

I would also get the pro.key file fresh from your email archives... perhaps that file got corrupted in your recent activities.

Doesn't make sense otherwise - there's no "activation" process.  The pro.key file is linked to the GUID of the flash drive, so if it's the same GUID, then the key would just work.

If all else fails, there's likely a hardware issue with your flash drive.

I've tried reformatting, placed all the files back, without any result.

Usb stcik seems fine to me though, everything works except for the license key apparantly.

I don't have another backup though, the only one I have is on my hard drive.

Is there anyway to get another license key ?

I guess they keep a register of which was assigned to which usb at limetech, so perhaps they can generate a new key for the same GUID.

It is a little hard to follow what all you have done but it sounds like you have 2 USB keys that are registered for the Pro license.

It that is the case and you did what I think you did you over wrote the key from USB 1 with the key on USB 2.  Each USB drive has it's own separate key file, as the key file is a combination of the flash GUID and your registration name.

if you don't have the Pro.key files in an email archive somewhere then you are likely going to have to email Lime Tech about this and get a new Pro.key generated.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of flash drive are you using?

Problem solved,

Strange but when I looked in my /config directory there was a second registration entry key present as a hidden file named "._pro"  key.

I've deleted the file, rebooted the system and everything went back to normal (full pro license).

In short what I wanted to do is to start replace my unraid config with a new proper standard config without any custom add-ons installed.

Instead of manually removing all installed add-ons, i choose to backup my actual config to an empty stick and hd folder and then installed a fresh 4.7 basic on my licensed but empty usb device. Placed my license file on it but the stick wouldn't boot. So I sais no panic, and I've recopied my backup-up config back to the licensed usb device. New problem, the licensed wasn't recognized.

Now I've noticed that there where two license key's present on the same stick, one hidden (._) and another one not hidden. I've deleted the the hidden one and everything works just fine.

The stick I use by the way is a tiny vault from sony (1GB)

You're using a Mac, right?  These are files that OSX creates.  You can manually delete them or use the utility dot_clean.

If you use unMenu there is an unMenu package that I created that will delete these files for you.
