Ivy Bridge NVME support?

Featured Replies

Hoping to get some expert opinions here. My unraid server is currently on an old ivy bridge 3570k and P8Z77-v Lk. I have 5x 3.5" spinners and a single 240gb crucial whatever SSD from way back acting as my cache drive. I want to move my cache to something larger, and I also want to get another 1tb SSD to function as my fast external storage for my main (ITX) desktop. My mobo is out of data slots and 2.5" drives are weirdly expensive, can I use a dual nvme PCIe riser card to drop in a pair of say SN550's or something similar and achieve reasonable performance? Is it even supported?

I do plan to build a new server in the next year or so but I'm aiming for something to tie it over until then.

No problem using NVMe devices with that board, it probably won't support PCIe bifurcation, so if you want to use a dual adapter you'll likely need one with a PLX switch.

Thanks for the confirmation, I decided to keep it simple and just grab a single new m.2 for now so a single slot will work. I'll probably add a second one when I upgrade the mainboard/cpu
