May 28, 201115 yr Can someone help me find a motherboard with a intel NIC built in besides these crappy realtek ones I'm seeing all over Thanks. The board will also need atleast two x8 slots.
June 1, 201115 yr I think what you are looking for will be very hard to find, simply because Realtek NIC's are cheaper than Intel NIC's. Basically, what you need is a board that will support two SATA controller cards, but then also support some type of video card or onboard video too. A very tough thing to find until you get into server boards. You linked NEwegg Canada before, so here is one that might work for you: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813121361 It has two PCIe x16 slots plus a PCI x4 slot. So you can use one x16 slot for a cheap video card. Then you would have the other x16 and x4 slots for adding your SATA controllers. This would give you onboard Intel NIC and room for a large unRAID system. However, it is pricey. A cheaper approach would be to look for the slots you need with onboard video. Forget about the onboard NIC. If it turns out to be Atheros or another incompatible NIC, just slap a Intel PCIex1 NIC in it and forget about it.

Well, you can pretty well guarantee that Intel mobos will use Intel NICs! The problem might be to find one with two PCIe x8 slots. However, if you're intending the x8 slots for HBAs, why not consider using a 16 port card? If that would be a workable solution for you, I can definitely recommend the DH55HC/DH55TC boards.
