Intel Quick Sync Hardware Transcoding working for some media but not others.

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I'm running unraid version 6.10.0-rc2 with the latest version of linuxserver's Plex container. I'm using an i9-10850K and have installed the Intel GPU TOP plugin and checked that "card0" and "renderD128" show up when I run "ls /dev/dri" in terminal. I have the path for "/dev/dri" mapped in the plex container settings, and have enabled "HDR tone mapping", "Use hardware acceleration when available" and "Use hardware-accelerated video encoding" in the Transcoder settings in Plex.

Previously, hardware transcoding was working flawlessly without issues, but recently I noticed that at the same time, some files are able to use hw transcoding, whilst others don't appear to be. This can be seen in the screenshot below:

1080p files using software transcoding is fine but when some 4K files also end up using software transcoding, my CPU usage spikes. I'd like to avoid software transcoding entirely if possible.

Does anyone know what is causing this issue and why some files are able to use hw transcoding, while others are not?

I've tried searching the forums and googling this issue, but can't seem to find any relevant answers.

Thank you, I appreciate the help.
