Remove one disk

Featured Replies

Hi everybody,

I have unraid 4.5.6 on 4 SATA disks on 1 Ide disk. I do not need this last disk anymore and I want to remove it from the array but I'm not sure how... I'v read some topics on the subject but they don't say the same things.

As I understand it, I should first run a "check" then stop the array and disconnect the HDD. But how do I keep the data that's on the HDD ? I thought I could copy the data from this disk to anoter on the array but how do I know which data is on that disk ? My array covers all the HDDs with only 3 visible shares so I don't see the disks on the windows explorer...

Any advice would be much appreciated...

Figure out which disk you want to remove (e.g. disk3) and move the data onto the other disks in the appropriate shares, so that the disk you wish to remove is empty.

Then follow these instructions for removing the disk - http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=FAQ#How_do_I_remove_a_hard_disk_that_I_do_not_plan_on_replacing.3F

Or you can follow these instructions - http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=2591.msg20919#msg20919

Enable the "disk" shares so you see disk1, disk2 and disk3 as shares.  Move your files off of the disk you will be removing.
