New Tower up and running but question?

Featured Replies

I got my new tower up and going with 1 parity and 1 data drive so far. Each 2 TB in size. Running unraid 4.7

Is it normal that after the format was done on the parity drive that the parity check is running and going to take a few hours. There is absolutely no data on any drive so why is the parity check running

Please let me know if this is normal.

It is normal.  Parity does not work on files, it works on bits.  Every bit on the disk is protected by parity (or rather, will be once the initial parity calculation is completed)

Good to know.

I have another hard drive (2TB) that just finished the pre-clear and I will be adding it after the parity check is done.

Will it have to go through the entire parity check again after each new drive is added?

This is my 3rd tower and I do not remember this happening when I added new drives.
