USB key not booting anymore unless reset is done

Featured Replies

Hi there!

I realize it may not be where I need to assign this issue but I guess I'm open to all suggestions by now :

It all began when I did some RAM upgrade on my unRAID box, I don't know why but since then every time I boot the box it doesn't recognize the USB key. Sometimes I get the "Incorrect boot media, replace and press any key" message, if I press a key it boots correctly. Worse, sometimes I get a blank screen and I'm forced to reset the box at that point it boots correctly directly on the key...

I have to admit I'm a bit lost, I reseted my BIOS, put the old RAM back in but no luck... Any idea on where this issue might come from or how to correct it would be more than welcome :)

MB : Asrock 939 Dual SATA2

CPU : AMD 64 3000+

Ram : 2* 512 Mb DDR 266

USB key Memory Corp 512Mo

Have a nice week-end ppl!

As I understand it, some BIOS's change the boot order after some CMOS changes, usually a hard disk change, but ...

I would double check that your USB drive is still set to boot first, and with the correct type.

Hi RobJ!

That was also my first guess but the USB key was the first bootable device before I reset the BIOS and I  made sure it remained that way after the BIOS reset. I even set the first boot as CD (I don't have any CD drive in the tower) then switch to USB but still no go :-/
