June 15, 201115 yr Author This drive is now $89.99 with no coupon. Has anyone tried using one of these as a cache drive? Was wondering on the performance over a 7200RPM drive or if the Adaptive Memory technology would not be helpful in this application.
June 15, 201115 yr I don't think this drive is worth it for the SSD cache drive unless you have files that stay on it permanently in another area. You can get a 2TB drive that will be fast enough and could be a replacement for another failed drive in a pinch by giving up the cache ability. In my particular case. I have a .home that gets automouted to other systems via NFS. Since this is where I store my src files it makes sense in my case. For a vmware area or some other area that stays around it may be worthwhile. For normal unRAID caching, the SSD cache ability of the drive provides little benefit.
