Moving all controllers / drives to 12G.

Featured Replies

I found a very good deal on 9400 HBA card which would hold all my drives at once. Right now they are all running the little Dell PERC 3G cards. In any situation would there be any scenaries where having all 12G based cards, and controllers benefit the speed of the server? Right now everything is going through 6g controller cards and backplanes and possible thought if pumping up the bandwidth I would be able to get more speed out of the system. I would of course have to sacrifice my 24 Norco case since that is only 6g. I already have the 12G card updated via into tri-mode with the latest first as well put down the latest bios. There is no conventional BIOS on boot up with this card. No hitting C+H or anything like that. This is just a JBOD ready to handle lots of data transferring. What do you guys think? Worth to give it a try? i'm also prone to getting this done because the Norco Blackplanes are failing 2 out of 10 boots. Eventually it won't boot boot at all. Only thing I could find with the drive capacity is the Rosemill 16 bay4U box. I already have the 8643 forward breakout cables for all the drives that all sit in each it's own HD square. I will miss hot swap and force myself to start using those disk location libraries.
