Some shared folders not showing in Windows 10

Featured Replies

I have created a share in Unraid. This share has 6 folders. I can see and access 5 out of 6 of those folders in Windows 10 Pro. They all have the same permissions, etc. Why can I not see the 6th folder? I was able to see and access it for some time, but then it just disappeared. Also I can access it by typing in \\server\share\foldername in windows explorer. I just can't see the folder in the list of folders when I go to the share in Explorer. How do I fix this?

Does the problematic folder has any special characters ? Or maybe start by a space ?

Or a period?  (Which hides the folder.  See    Settings   >>>   SMB    for option to hide or display)

No special characters, spaces or periods.

I noticed it disappeared just after a power failure and I think data was being uploaded to it at the time. Not sure if that had something to do with it.

Go looking for anything missing by using the built-in File Browser (circled):

I can see it in Unraid, but not in Windows.

Open up the terminal (the   >_   icon on the toolbar)  and give us a screen capture of:

ls -al /mnt/user/*SHARE*

Where   *SHARE*    is replaced by the actual share name.

Here you go. Thanks...

That output only shows 2 folders - I thought there were 6?   Since there appears to be a folder under the share Tutorials also called Tutorials maybe it will be worth repeating the 'ls' command for that sub-folder?

  • Author

Sorry. Here is showing all 6...

And this is what I see in Windows....

The Tutorials folder is not showing.

The permissions are what one would expect to see for all of the directories.  I am at a loss to explain what is going on at this point.

Do you have another Windows computer that you could use to look at this share?    (Just wondering if something got set on that Windows setup that is blocking display of that directory...)

  • Author

yes, I can try that. If that doesn't work, I might just delete that share and recreate it.

Just tried accessing the share from another Windows 10 Pro computer. It doesn't see the Tutorials folder either. It shows everything the other machine showed though. So I am thinking something must have happened to the Tutorials share.

IF you do that I would suggest changing the name...   (In fact, first, you might try renaming that directory on the server----  say,    Erich_tutorials.)

Thanks. Changing the name didn't seem to help.

I think I discovered the problem and solution. I was using Robocopy on Windows 10 to copy my files over to the unRAID server. However Robocopy is known to cause the destination folder to become hidden as a result of it changing the folders attributes.

Here is some info about this issue:

Hope this helps someone else in the future.
