Unraid server losing internet after about an hour

Featured Replies

My server now loses internet connection after about an hour or 2 of running, I've reset my router, tried different cables and ports, and tried different IP addresses. It worked fine until about a month ago, I did move to a new house and switch to a new network, not sure if this could be related because it was working for a while on the new network. I tried to completely reset unraid but it seems like I cannot do that without buying a new key. Am I missing something? What can I do to fix this?

Your license .key file is in the config folder and will work on any install to the same flash drive, or can be transferred to a new flash.

No reason a new install should be necessary, and no reason to expect it to fix anything.

Try deleting config/network.cfg from flash drive so it will use default DHCP and see if that helps.

Do you have an attached keyboard and monitor?

I do have a keyboard and monitor attached. I deleted network.cfg, I'm gonna give it a few hours to see if the issue persists.

If this happens again it would be helpful if you can grab the diagnostics from the command line.

So it appears that rather than having a network problem my server is just freezing after a few hours.

I disabled C6 and XMP, my server seems to be working fine now, I am going to let it run a day or so to see if it has any more problems.

Still crashing. I'm thinking it may be a memory issue as I have mismatched sticks and 3 slots filled, could that be the problem?

  • Community Expert

It could, try with just one or two matched ones.

Tried with 2 matched sticks, still crashing.

Not much there, that was after a crash?

Yeah, I'll get another one to see if it gets anything else

I've got a new syslog, this one has a lot more on it than the first.

It does but the last line is 2 minutes after boot, was it already without internet?

  • Author

Yeah, the computer froze after 2 minutes, normally it goes for at least an hour.

There's nothing logged, assumed you followed the general Ryzen recommendations linked above there's likely some hardware issue, one more thing you can try is to boot the server in safe mode with all docker/VMs disable, let it run as a basic NAS for a few days, if it still crashes it's likely a hardware problem, if it doesn't start turning on the other services one by one.

Id also recommend booting in and running a memory test with whatever you have installed. If its a memory problem its harder to tell while running, but the memory test would help isolate if its a Ram problem.

Ran Memtest for a couple cycles, no errors. Tried safe mode and it still froze, I'm going to try the Ryzen recommendations again in case I did it wrong. Does it matter which RAM slots the RAM is in? My CPU cooler is blocking the slot closest to it.

Usually no, but make sure you are using both channels.

Retried the Ryzen settings to no avail, not sure what else it could be at this point, I guess its just a hardware issue.

I have now discovered that when in GUI mode, the unraid firefox tab stops working but the rest of the OS keeps functioning fine. Does this mean that it is a software problem after all?
