so once my mb comes I can have up to 22 drives 6 on board + 2-8 port pcie.

 

now since this will be the first time using a cache drive I was wondering if I should go to a normal 7200rpm drive or even a higher preformance drive?

even your slowest drive is likely to be faster than your network.  Unless you are looking for the max possible write speed and have a need for it, any drive will do.
