I changed the server name, and now I cannot log in

Featured Replies

I cannot log in to my Unraid server after I changed the name of it. When I try to log in I get no response. Not even an "Invalid username or password". Tried restarting the server, changing the name back to "Tower" in ident.cfg but with no luck. I've successfully changed the name in older versions of Unraid. The issue happens in 6.10.2 and 6.10.3.

Did you try clicking the PASSWORD RECOVERY link?

This takes me to the troubleshooting page. I tried reseting the password with instructions on the page although nothing changed - I still cannot login.

Cannot replicate this with v6.10.3, did you using the IP address to see if there's any difference?

  • Author

I get the issue on the local IP address and the .local domain.

I would try recreating the flash drive, copy the bare minimum from the old config, like disk assignments and pools, don't copy anything related to identification or passwords.

I've backed up my flash drive and reinstalled Unraid on it. After creating a root user I could log in, but only from tower.local domain. The issue still exists when trying to log in from a local IP address.

That's very weird, don't remember any similar issue reported before.

For future generations: I also had this problem. I also noticed that I could log in if I set up a keyboard and display on the server. After much trial and error, I was eventually led by one of the Discord helpers [Thanks, jcofer555!] to trying a different browser, and that also worked. After clearing cookies and temp files in Firefox for Tower.local, <MyServer>.local, and all local IP addresses, I was able to gain access through the web portal on Firefox again.

So, anyone having similar issues... try hooking up a display and keyboard, try a different browser, and try clearing your cookies & temp files. Hope this is helpful!
