Issue preclearing a drive.

Featured Replies

Hello fine community.  I am a bit new to preclearing, but was able to clear my first two drives without any problems.  The third drive I have taken out of an external enclosure and was in the NTFS format.  I was first thrown off when this disk was showing up as hdX instead of the sdX I was familiar with in my previous preclears.  Now, I notice it is showing up as two different drives in my disk view (hdc and hdc1).  Is this just two partitions on the disk?  Can someone tell me what I need to do to make this appear as one Sata disk?  See attached for what I see.  Any guidance would be appreciated.

Check in BIOS and make sure AHCI only is selected. Make sure IDE or SATA and IDE combined is not selected. hdc refers to the whole drive and hdc1 refers to the first (and only) partition.

Well turning off IDE/Sata combo got rid of this third disk coming up as hdX and now appears as sdc and sdc1 still.  Is it safe to just ignore this and proceed with adding it to my array?

No need to do it again, but it will not hurt if you do.   You can test if it is pre-cleared with:

preclear_disk.sh -t /dev/sdX

(where sdX = the three letter device name.)
