Disk 2 XFS corrupt all data gone

Featured Replies

I had two bad disks , atm I am waiting to return and buy 2 new more disks. I lost the option to rebuild  disk 2 which I lost 7 TB of data.

My parity is still valid , so can I retrieve the data from parity when I get the new disk for 2 and 10?

You cannot recover data if you have 2 bad disks and only single parity.

How do you know? Most times it's communication failures, multiple drives going bad at once is rare unless something physical happened to both of them, like the entire server getting dropped.

Put those original disks back in and

attach diagnostics to your NEXT post in this thread.

Well when I did parity check it started screaming errors on disk 2 and 10. I upgraded firmware on my hp 220.

Amazon agreed to give me credit for 2 disks so I can buy 2 disks back. ATM bad spot with cash.

Here is my logs if you can see anything.

i was getting a lot IO errors and idk My mind been a mess with all my issues lol.

@itimpi The 2nd disk is not really bad in that sense , its going bad.

@trurl I never took disk 2 out I just swaped it with disk 10.

So 2 = 10

10 = 2

Disabled/emulated disk2 is mounted and has plenty of contents. All other disks also mount. Disk10 seems empty but from your other thread sounds like it was formatted.

SMART report for disk2 looks fine. SMART report for disk10 shows some pending so it might need to be replaced after rebuilding disk2.

From your other threads it seems like you have been having connection problems. No reason to think other disks are bad but I haven't examined their  SMART reports. Do any have SMART warnings on the Dashboard page?

Might be a good idea to rebuild disk2 to a spare in case disk10 causes problems. That way you will still have the original disk2 with its contents.

I would consider forcing rebuild of disk10 instead of disk2 since it is disk10 that has problems. But since it is empty anyway maybe we will just try to rebuild disk2 and see what happens.

I found evidence to support the SAS card firmware could of caused a lot flags of failure. I am kinda scared to use disk 10 and 11.

Maybe I will try and use them.

If I set disk 2 to rebuild will I get my data back from my last parity. My last rebuild got stuck at 48%

@trurl so i should swap 2 with 10 and 10 with 2.

Then do parity rebuild?

Parity contains none of your data and parity by itself can rebuild nothing. All other disks must be present to rebuild disk2 so you have no choice about disks 10 and 11 until you rebuild disk2.

Possibly the current contents of disk2 will be better than the rebuild results, so you want to keep original disk2 as it is and rebuild to a spare disk.

its possible to see disk 2 emulated contents?

  • Community Expert

SMART for disk11 shows a few reallocated but it should be fine.

  • Author

I realized , I am using disk 11 at moment , I am gonna swap back 2 and 10.

Just noticed disk2 seems empty also.

You must have formatted disks 2 and 10.

Just now, MrBrac said:

What do you mean by that?

  • Author

I swapped them in unraid Disk 10 was new and disk 2 was old.

I swapped them in UI.

Disk 2 first xfs repair lost 1.2 tb

then 2nd xfs reapir lost all fs.

So 2 = 10

10 = 2

I don't know what you mean by that either. Unraid won't let you change disk assignments unless you New Config. Did you?

  • Author

Yeah I did that new configimage.png.2e4e1bc7b919a9d352fe2194d8b4f0de.png

Also no possible good reason to swap the disk assignments. I think you are just digging your hole deeper. Slow down and don't do anything else without further advice.

Do you have anything about that in another thread?

  • Community Expert

Does that screenshot showing SMART warning on disk2 correspond to the diagnostics you posted earlier, or is that after the (pointless) swap of disks 2 and 10?

Since disks 2 and 10 are empty, simplest thing is probably to just New Config without them and see if you can rebuild parity.

  • Author

I am doing that now rebuild parity. I know I dug the hole good.

  • Community Expert

Post new diagnostics.

What do you get from the command line with this?

ls -la /mnt/user

  • Author

something is making my docker img really big? Is there way to find culprit?

On the Docker page, click Container Size and post a screenshot

  • Community Expert

What is this latest screenshot about? I thought you were rebuilding parity without disks 2 and 10.
