Unmountable: unsupported partition layout

Featured Replies

Hi, I keep getting the above issue on a relatively new hdd I installed.

It was working correctly and then showed up as failed. I have since cleared the drive, run preclear disks etc however unraid will not now format the drive and keeps failing when I ask it to do so.

Is anyone able to assist with the attached diagnostics

Thanks

Since disk4 is disabled unassign it, start the array and post new diags.

Now re-assign disk4, start array and post new diags.

Now attached.

It looks like I was able to format the disk when it was not assigned to the array.

Looks like it may be working now but Still having errors pop up though.

Thanks

None of that should have been necessary, and not sure what was going on, but since the word FORMAT appeared several times in this thread I just thought I should mention for anyone reading. NEVER format a disk that you think should have data on it you want to keep.

I see from your diagnostics that disk4 is empty, and disk1 is mostly empty. Is that expected?

Disk2 full.

I managed to copy the data from the parity "emulated disk" onto an unassigned device before clearing the drive.

It wouldn't then format when reading to the array however managed to format it outside of the array before adding back in.

Thanks

Note that rebuild doesn't require a clear disk or a formatted disk since rebuild overwrites the entire disk regardless what is on it.

Which errors?

UDMA CRC ERROR COUNT IS 10.

Hasn't popped up since first reinstalling into the array and all seems OK now.

This was one of the errors I was constantly getting before now.

On Dashboard page, you can click on that SMART warning to acknowledge and it will warn again if it increases.

CRC errors are connection problems. The disk firmware has detected inconsistent data received (checksum). The data is resent. Not a problem if it doesn't increase frequently. If it does you need to fix connection. (It's also possible to have connection problems the drive doesn't know about since it never received any data)
