January 18, 200818 yr I bought the MD-1500/LL back in November. I loaded it up with 5 drives and everything was working great. I recent got 2 more drives. When I added them, I started getting a network name no longer available error message when copying files to the unRAID. I read on the forums and tried everything suggested here from other people with similar problems (added the nolapic parameter in the config file, tried different ports on my switch and different switches and cables). I then noticed that when I'd lose connectivity, the light on the parity drive was going off and the drive was clicking. I thought I had a bad drive so I swapped it out and redid the parity check and tried again. That didn't solve the problem. I checked the syslog (see attached) and did not find any errors either with the parity check or when the copy failed. Any ideas on the what could be causing this problem? Thanks! Jeff
January 19, 200818 yr I have no ideas either. Your syslog looks perfect to me, with very good speed on that parity check. You mention 5 drives above, then adding 2 more. Your syslog indicates 6 drives, 5 1TB drives and a 500GB drive. Sounds like you tried the right fixes. A clicking drive is always a bad drive, as far as I know. What operating system are you copying from? What size files work, and don't work?
January 22, 200818 yr Author Figured it out. I swapped out the wrong drive. I thought it was the parity drive that was bad but it was actually the data drive. Switched it, rebuilt and everything works great. Jeff
