Unraid shuts down after startup

Help!

I've used this 3 disk server (upgraded to 4.7) for at least 5 years without one issue, until now.  Was watching a movie and it shut down. When rebooting Unraid will shutdown seconds after the unraid prompt shows up.  I found that if power was disconnected from the parity drive Unraid would start up and remain on. The data drives showed up with the parity drive missing of course.  I was afraid to start up the array.

OK so I figured the parity drive is bad so I replaced it with a new 2gig Seagate.  Same thing happens!  Unraid shuts down right after the prompt. I tried moving the power and data cable from disk2 to the parity disk and the same thing again happens.  Checked and reseated cables and ram.  Power supply measures OK. Memtest has run for an hour now and shows no errors.  Disk 1 is a PATA drive, Disk2 and the parity drive are both SATA drives.  I've searched the forum and found nothing like this mentioned.

If I start the array can I access the data drives even if the parity drive is missing?  I would like to copy my data off.  It looks like the motherboard is Kaput!

I would appreciate any of your comments.

Thank You, Mike

sounds more like a fan issue and the CPU is overheating.  Or a power supply issue.

(more likely the power supply)  Yes, you can run unRAID without any single drive and still access all the data.

Thanks for your reply.

I took a closer look at the motherboard.  Some of the capacitors near the cpu look swollen.  I've got another XP pro machine laying around here. Do you think it would work to install my Unraid disks in the other machine and boot that one from my usb drive?

edit; I just found "Replacing the motherboard....." in FAQ's

Well, I installed the disks in my other computer and set it to boot off the usb drive.  All I had to do was tell Unraid which disk goes where.  It's running perfectly.

Pretty amazing!!

Yes, and on the 5.0beta7 version you would not even need to assign the drives

( as long as you used the same flash drive,or more accurately, the same "config" directory contents )

Try that with Microsoft Windows...
