When to assign parity when moving data

Done with preclears now ready to move to the next stop and the guide for me was a little hazy here.

 

When I go to the devices page do I leave the parity slot empty and just assign a data drive, copy files to the data drive, then assign the parity drive?

 

I only have two harddrives right now one will be parity the other data.

 

Or do I assign the parity drive and data drive, format, start the array, and there is some other step to do before parity calculations start?
