Problems with cache drive and newly added drive[solved]

Featured Replies

Hi

I will start by describing my system.

Running version 5.0-beta7 (Updated from 4 something, really old version, last week)

Parity Drive: Samsung 2TB

Disk1: 1TB Seagate

Disk2: 1TB Seagate

Disk3: 1TB Seagate

Disk4: 1TB Seagate

Cache drive: 500GB Seagate

I changed the Parity Drive recently to the current Samsung drive. Then used the old parity drive in the array.

But the problem is that the drive are not used, the shares says it's only 300GB left when it should be 1.3TB. I'm guessing it got something to do with the share allocation method?

I'm using High-Water and the shares are either Split level 1 or 2. Depending on what kind of data it is.

The other problem I have, which are probably related, are the cache drive. It keeps on failing moving the files to the shares.

I installed and configured this server a long time ago, and it kept running beautifully. So I barely touched the thing before I needed more space. So I'm kinda noobish, so please bear with me :P

It's probably something with the share allocation I don't understand properly :P

Any help are greatly appreciated :)

Try to restart and see if the capacity of the new data drive is included in the shares.

The cache mover is failing because the "min free space" is set to zero. This should be set to at least the size of the largest file that you'll ever write. Many set it to double this size to maintain extra free space in case its needed in the future for housekeeping.

Rebooted the server and the shares got the additional space. That was kinda stupid I didn't try that first :P

I set the "min free space" way more than I ever would need, but it still refuses to move the files.

Solved it  ;D

I had to copy the folder off the cache drive and copy it once again to the share. Ran the move script again and are now moving the files.
