[SOLVED] 4.4.2 been running for >1 year, now won't boot!

Featured Replies

Hi!

So i've been running Bubbaraid (unRAID 4.4.2) for over a year now successfully --

today i tried copying some large files between the drives, and the system hung. I rebooted, and now it hangs at the syslinux welcome message ("SYSLINUX 3.72 2008-09-25 Copyright..." etc.) It does not start decompressing the kernel image.

this is with bubbaraid enabled and disabled.

i've already tried chkdsk'ing, reformatting (with hp formatter) and re-running latest syslinux and copying all the files to the usb drive. and to a different (new) usb drive - no luck.

any idea what i should try next? seems like a hardware issue...

thanks in advance :)

Perform a memory check.  It is most likely if you tried a different flash drive already.

thanks for your speedy response :)

ran memtest86+ off the Ultimate Boot CD (running off a usb flash stick) and it passed!

starting to worry now... any other suggestions? is it worth trying to install the latest version of unRAID?

doesn't seem worth it as it's not even getting to the stage of loading the kernel image.

odd that UBCD booted fine. going to try booting knoppix now as well...

Um, let memtest run for at least overnight.  One pass is not nearly enough to test the memory.

knoppix boots fine as well... seems a bit odd.

updated flash stick to latest unRAID 4.7 - boots fine.

i'll still run an overnight memtest but got a feeling it was to do with the older version. I had recently purchased the 'plus' licence - although wouldn't think that would affect booting...
