Wireguard not working after updating to 6.11.1

I was on 6.9.2 and had wireguard running for a week or two before I updated to 6.11.1 but now wireguard isn't working. I can have tunnel set to active but as soon as I add a peer it will go to inactive and all future attempts to make the tunnel active will just have the slider immediately return to inactive. If I delete the peer then I can again make the tunnel active. I'm pulling my hair out here - any thoughts?
