October 14, 20223 yr I am trying to work out why my transfer speed drops when copying a file from Unraid 6.11.1 over SMB to a windows machine. I have all drives now connected using a LSI HBA not direct motherboard. My switch communiction is 1G full duplex witha high backplane.
October 14, 20223 yr Community Expert That's normal if you are transferring to the array with the default write mode, try turbo write.
October 28, 20223 yr Author I already have turbo write turned on, and there is a cache drive in between. But still weird speed service delivery.

Your problem is occurring during a transfer of a single file from your server? Or is it slowly down while copying a file which is a part of a batch file transfer? Turbo write (off or on) will not effect the transfer of a file from your server! Where is this cache drive? I would assume that it is on your Unraid server. What is the reduction in speed? Is the target hard drive on the Windows CMR or SMR? How much RAM does your Windows computer have? (There are many steps/components involved in writing a file to a disk in any modern OS...)
