Slow speed when moving folder on the same hdd

Featured Replies

Hello,

Why isn't the folder move instant on the same hdd? I am trying to move "/mnt/user/media/shows/new" to "/mnt/user/media/" and it is moving as fast as a copy command.

with Dynamix File Manager I use plus sign on the right and select move from there.

I believe that the Dynamix File Manager uses a copy + delete original on success strategy to implement a move.

Most file managers will.

the Dynamix File Manager uses the approach it does so that users do not inadvertently fall could of the behaviour described here in the online documentation accessible via the ‘Manual’ link at the bottom of the GUI or the DOCS link at the top of each forum page.    I guess it could be enhanced (if it has not already) to take account of the fact that if moving between physical drives then this behaviour will not happen and a move at the Linux level will not give unexpected results.
