I'm running version 4.7; I want to replace my existing 1.5TB parity drive with a new 2TB drive AND re-use the old parity drive as a data drive. Here's what I think I should do:

1. Power down array

2. Install new 2TB drive

3. Power up array

4. Stop the array

5. Un-assign the existing parity drive

6. Start the array with no parity drive assigned (to get array to forget the old parity drive)

7. Stop the array

8. Assign the new 2TB drive to the parity drive slot

9. Start the array

10. Let the array calculate parity

11. When parity calculation is done, preclear the old 1.5TB parity drive. (It's possible to do this during the parity calculation, but a bit safer to keep the drive with its parity data in case something crashes during the creation of the new parity data.)

12. Stop the array

13. Assign the now pre-cleared ex-parity drive to an unused slot in the array.

14. Restart the array.

15. When presented with the Format button, use that to format the ex-parity drive.

 

Is this correct?
