(SOLVED) Switching from User shares to disk shares

Featured Replies

Is it possible to switch from a User share to a disk share? For example i have 3 user shares (Share1,Share2,Share3) spread across all of my drives. Can i just exclude DriveX from all user shares then and then create a disk share for Share3 on DriveX and then just move the spread out data from the other drives to DriveX.

Or are there other steps i would need to take?

Disk shares are below the user share, so you need to access the disk share first then the share folder, for example, instead of \\tower\share you would access \\tower\disk3 first and then folder "share" inside that.

Best to stay with user shares, but you can configure each user share to only write to certain disks with the Include setting for that share, or to not write to certain disks with its Exclude setting. Only set Include or Exclude, not both. Include means write to only those disks, Exclude means write to all disks except those.

User Share settings affect where new files are written, all disks are included for reads.

You can use the unBALANCE plugin to move files to other disks
