Power Failure - UPS didn't kick in as expected

Featured Replies

I have 2 identical UnRaid boxes, everything the same including the UPS's, the UnRaid version, the settings, everything.  I had a power failure yesterday for like 1 hour but one of the UnRaids didn't behave as expected. When power came back that UnRaid booted and started a parity check which tells me it didn't shutdown clean as the UPS should do it.  The other UnRaid did shutdown properly as per the UPS settings.  What am I missing here?  See my diagnostic file.

Check the battery in the UPS.  I  have done this by using about 150W of incandescent bulbs as a load and seeing how long the battery will last.

(I also set up  the UPS so that it starts the shutdown 30 seconds after the power fails.  My reasoning for this is that-- in my part of the world ---if it is out that long, it will be out far longer than any normal UPS will be able to keep the server running!)

Battery on the UPS, yes that could be one issue, perhaps will cause a sudden shutdown without giving the UnRaid  time to shutdown graciously.  Good call on that and I will check them as soon as this parity check is over.

I like the 30 seconds rule, might as well go for it.  Really appreciated it mate...

I had a similar problem, and will adjust the settings accordingly to the 30 second shutdown. We generally only have brown-outs in my semi urban area anyhow (knock on wood of course). Would there be an entry in a log somewhere about the type of shutdown that happened? My server ended up getting hard-locked up and needed a physical power cycle to get it to come back up.

By the by, I ordered a PiVPN and will deploy that with my server.
